FCBC 50th anniversary
1963 team photo Photo
Picture is of a 12 year old 1963 FCBC Giants team. Gary Buffington in upper left corner standing next to my Dad (coach). Other players in the photo include Gary Emery, Tim Schilling, Clark Nelson, Tim Warnock, John Cooper, Grant Sitler. The players with the "N" on their caps were chosen for the National League all-stars that year. Of course there was also an American League all star team. We were affliliated with "Little League", so their was a path to the Little League Championships in Cooperstown.  That year our team made it to the state championships, but lost 6-5 to a Denver team. "As we now know-organized Youth baseball began in Fort Collins in 1961-I can remember we had a parade that summer with all of us kids (maybe 100 of us) in uniform and our coaches down college avenue-we assembled in Library Park downtown before the parade-is that awesome! We played our games on vacant CSU property-dirt fields (where the CSU dorms and Mody are located now) We had chicken wire backstops and wooden snow fence (that we borrowed from the County) in the outfield. Of course FC population then was probably 20,000 its now 149,000." Provided by Gary Buffington
